Library Sciences Intern – Resource Library

Original post Date: August 18, 2011

Position: Internship, Resources Library

About the NYC Leadership Academy:
Launched in 2003, the NYC Leadership Academy (www.nycleadershipacademy.org) is an independent non-profit organization that recruits, develops and supports effective school leaders, with a focus on preparing principals to lead New York City’s high-need schools—those marked by high student poverty, low student achievement, and a history of frequent leadership turnover.

Position Description: The NYC Leadership Academy is looking for a Library Sciences intern to work with us to improve our resource library and ensure that it supports the work of our staff.  This internship is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in working with the NYC public schools to get a behind-the-scenes look at the work that goes into developing and supporting leaders across the system.

We’ve done an initial survey and need to make changes to ensure that our library is a great resource for our staff.  Priorities include updating materials, integrating technology, organizing our video footage collection, and some general reorganization.  The resource library currently includes books, articles, news resources, categorized readings and a small but growing collection of DVDs.  Library topics include Leadership, Accountability, Instruction and Pedagogy, Learning Organization, Child & Adolescent Development, School Culture/Climate, Communication & Strategy, Equity, Race, Class and Gender, and Resource Allocation.

Location:  45-18 Court Square, Long Island City (5 minutes outside of Manhattan).
Near major subways, trains, buses, and LIRR.

Pay: Unpaid Internship – we will provide a small stipend to cover expenses.
Could be used for college credit or just to get great experience.

Start Date: Ideally ASAP but flexible

Length: Preference for the year but will be flexible

Hours: Flexible
