The Archives of the Puerto Rican Diaspora of the Center for Puerto Rican Studies is interested in accepting graduate students for practicum in the archives field. As I mentioned to you in my brief conversation several minutes ago, we had the opportunity to supervise one of your graduate students and met Dr. Marianne Cooper last semester. She had invited us to apply to host another Intern for this coming semester. Next Tuesday, I will be forwarding some information about our Library and Archives. Would you need descriptions for specific archival projects or a broad description of our institution will suffice?
The Center Archives was officially institutionalized in 1989 and it is the only repository exclusively devoted to documenting the Puerto Rican Diaspora. Since its inception , we have been recognized by the New York State Archives for Program Excellence in 1994 and 2002. We have partnered with the New York State Archives on a Windows to the Past A Latino Digital Project and collaborated in the Electronic Schoolhouse Project as well.
We are looking forward to meeting with you and dialoguing about the feasibility of having Interns in our Library and Archives.
Best regards,
Pedro Juan Hernández

The Centro de Estudios Puertorriqueños/Center for Puerto Rican Studies is a university-based research institute whose mission consists of two components. One is to collect, preserve and provide access to archival and library resources documenting the history and culture of Puerto Ricans. The other is to produce, facilitate, and disseminate interdisciplinary research about the diasporic experiences of Puerto Ricans and to link this scholarly inquiry to social action and policy debates.
